Post Convention Tour Recap

As you may or may not know, doTERRA's annual convention was held last month in Salt Lake City. Thankfully for those who couldn't make it to that event, there is a Post Convention Tour that travels around the country bringing mini-conventions closer to all of us who live on the opposite side of the country! I attended the Post Convention Tour in Columbus, Ohio last night and wanted to share some highlights with you.  You'll have to excuse the photo quality - I was using my phone to take pictures and wasn't all that close to the front.

The key speakers were Jarod Winger, doTERRA Presidential Diamond, and Andrea Gappmayer, doTERRA East Coast Regional Sales Manager.  They had lots of great information to share with all of us and went through the entire new product line detailing each addition to our offering.  I won't detail the new products here, but instead will share with you some of the other things that meant the most to me.

My #1 takeaway from this event is summed up in this photo:

What Jared Winger was telling us while this slide was up was amazing.  doTERRA has exclusivity contracts with the growers of 84% of the essential oils we sell.  What that means is that no other company, no other store, no other brand is able to access these oils where they are sourced.  So no one else is able to bring us the quality, purity or potency that doTERRA offers because no one else even has access to these plants where they are native - ONLY doTERRA.  That is jaw dropping!  That is why you see all the other bottles of essential oils riddled with warning labels.  To me, it is terrifying to see people using other essential oils in ways that only doTERRA oils should be used because ONLY doTERRA oils can guarantee this level of quality, purity and potency.

Another slide I took particular note of was this one:

Since doTERRA began selling CPTG essential oils, the percentage of adverse reactions to the oils is .006% and those have primarily been minor skin irritations.  I could write a post that went on for days about adverse reactions of other health solutions but I'm sure we are all aware of the dangers of other options.  How mindblowing is it that we can offer health solutions with a "risk" that is this low?!

The theme of this year's convention was "ONE."  Andrea Gappmayer shared this slide:

So to sum up my experience last night - if ONE person shares these pure, potent oils with ONE other person it could literally be life changing.  I'm pretty excited to be a part of that!  Are you ready to join me?

DIY Dryer Balls

Fabric softeners come in all different shapes and sizes, and have scents that range anywhere from “Tropical Breeze” to “Lavender.” Did you know that most lavender-scented fabric softeners actually contains no lavender—only chemicals that have been blended to give you an impression that you are smelling the real deal? Substituting these chemically-driven fabric softeners for an all-natural, toxic-free alternative is much easier and more affordable than you might think. Follow this step-by-step tutorial to make your own wool dryer balls that can last for many years and can easily be scented with doTERRA essential oils leaving your fabrics fragrant and soft.
What You Need:
100 percent wool yarn or other 100 percent animal yarn
Pantyhose
Upcycling Idea: Reuse pantyhose with runs in them
Directions:
Take the end of the yarn and wrap it around your middle and index finger 10 times. Remove it from the fingers and wrap 2–3 times around the middle (it should look like a bow). This will be the start of your ball.
Continue tightly wrapping the yarn around the start, working toward making a round shape. Once your ball is roughly the size of a tennis ball, cut the yarn and tuck the ends into the sides of the ball. Repeat this process until you have created four or more balls of yarn.
Cut one leg off of the pantyhose. Place one ball into the bottom of the leg and tie a knot right above the ball to secure it in place. Repeat until all the balls have been added and secured.
Once the balls are tightly secured in the pantyhose, put them in the washer (can be with a load of dirty laundry) and wash on the hottest setting. This will allow the yarn to felt. Felting will make the yarn fuse together, resulting in a solid ball. Once washed, dry the balls thoroughly in the dryer at the highest heat setting.
After the balls are completely dry, remove them from the pantyhose and they’re ready for use! Before drying your next load of laundry, add your favorite doTERRA essential oil to 4–6 dryer balls, toss them in the dryer, and enjoy the soft, fluffy, wonderful-smelling fruits of your labor.

DIY Bath Fizzies

Creating a spa like environment in your home can easily be done using simple household ingredients and essential oils. Bath bombs are a fun way to add excitement to your senses while enjoying the benefits of essential oils. They are also entertaining to use, and are loved by both kids and adults alike; because really, who doesn't love a bath that fizzles?!
Even if you don't have a bathtub, these bath bombs can still be effective in a shower. The water will help dissolve the bath bomb and release the aroma of the essential oils into the steam.
Ingredients:
1 cup citric acid
1 cup baking soda
½ cup cornstarch
½ cup doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil
8-10 drops favorite essential oil or blend
Silicone mold
Note: Citric acid can be found at most major supermarkets in the canning section.
Tip: You could also use almond oil or olive oil in the place of doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil.
Directions:
In bowl, place citric acid, baking soda, cornstarch, and oil.
Add 8-10 drops of the essential oil or essential oil blend of your choice.
Mix well with spoon until soft dough is formed. It should have the consistency of damp sand.If the mixture is too wet, try adding a little more baking soda and cornstarch until consistency is correct.
At this point, you may add food coloring, dried herbs, or flower petals to mixture.
Place mixture in silicone molds. Let sit 24 hours before removing from mold.
To use, drop in tub or shower and allow to dissolve.

DIY Aromatherapy Play Dough

Entertain your kids this season by turning play time into learning time by making aromatherapy play dough! This activity is a great way for children to learn about aromatherapy and essential oils. Use a variety of oils and colors to help kids learn new scents. Some fun essential oils could include: Wild Orange, Peppermint, Lemon, Rosemary, or Lavender to help turn play time into nap time.

Ingredients:

2 cups flour

2 cups colored water

1 cup salt

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

5 drops essential oils

Directions:

Combine all ingredients, except for essential oils, in a large saucepan and stir until combined.

Once combined, put over medium heat. Using a spatula, continue to stir ingredients together until it forms a ball.

Note: Don’t overcook as it will lead to dry play dough.

Remove from heat and cool on parchment paper.

Once cool, add 5 drops of your favorite essential oil and knead until thoroughly combined.

You’re done! Just store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for months of fun.
